Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Expansion Pass announced with day-one DLC

Nintendo recently held a Direct dedicated to the upcoming Switch exclusive Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Ahead of its release on the 29th of July, the console manufacturer has announced that the game will offer an expansion pass, bringing new content to the game up until the end of 2023.

Setting you back £26.99 ($29.99) the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 expansion pass will offer exclusive content from day-one of the game’s release. Expansion pass owners will be able to get their hands on “helpful items” as well as “outfit colour variants” on the game’s launch day (the 29th of July).

More substantive DLC will arrive some time before the end of the year and will bring with it a “Challenge Battle, new Hero character and quests [and] new outfits”. A second round of challenges, a new hero and new outfits will then be added by the 30th of April 2023.

The final piece of DLC is set to release by the 31st of December 2023 and will bring with it a “Brand new story scenario”. It is currently unknown whether this scenario will rival the likes of the Torna DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but here’s to hoping.

Finally, it’s worth noting that this expansion pass will not be included for free with Nintendo Switch Online’s premium tier. This does make some sense however, as unlike the other expansion passes added to NSO (Mario Kart, Animal Crossing and Splatoon), Xenoblade Chronicles 3 does not offer online functionality. If the DLC rivals that of Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s however, then the £26.99 price tag should be more than justifiable.
