Until Dawn Remake gets much-requested performance mode update

Early last month, the Until Dawn Remake released to a lukewarm reception, with the enhanced Unreal Engine 5 title in some ways appearing visually downgraded when compared to the PS4 original – all the while running at 30fps. Finally, the team have released their biggest patch yet, bringing a 60FPS performance mode to PS5 and more.

Making the announcement, the team at Ballistic Moon shared the following: “Until Dawn Patch 1.06 is now live for PS5! This major update brings a boat-load of fixes for commonly reported issues, plus new (highly requested!) Performance and Fidelity modes for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro.”

While the update has yet to be made available on PC due to requiring “a little more testing,” it should arrive sometime this week. With that, just some of the most notable changes include:

  • Performance Mode
  • Fidelity Mode
  • Monitor switching support for PC
  • Fix for anti-virus interfering with the game and the crash reporter
  • Fix for a crash that occurred when pausing the game during pre-rendered videos
  • Fix for extremely slow shader compilation speeds & crashes when Frame Generation is enabled
  • Fix for choppy/tearing pre-rendered videos
  • Default Steam Deck quality is now appropriate to the device
  • Scalability balancing tweaks for high end PC and PS5 Performance modes

The full list of fixes are extensive and can be found HERE, however the team have also outlined some other problems which have yet to be resolved – but should be in due course (including issues with FSR Frame Generation on Nvidia’s 40 series GPUs).

With Until Dawn being one of the very few PlayStation published PS5 titles to not offer a 60fps option, it is welcome to see a performance mode added. Hopefully it managed to stay at a stable framerate.
