The Crew Motorfest has “biggest ever franchise launch”

Many publishers have their own car racing franchise. PlayStation has Gran Turismo, Xbox has Forza and Ubisoft has The Crew – an interesting take on the genre focused on keeping the action moving at all times through a rather cool vehicle switching mechanic. Despite amassing a total of 40 million players across its two games, The 3rd entry in the series – The Crew Motorfest – has managed to surpass both with the “biggest ever franchise launch.”

Making the announcement via a press release, Ubisoft revealed the success of the recently-released Crew Motorfest, saying: “The game is the highest rated title in the franchise and had the best first week for the franchise in terms of total unit sell through, overall consumer spend, and season pass adoption rate.”

Speaking on this early success for the game,  Ahmed Boukhelifa – the Managing Director at Ubisoft Ivory Tower – said “We are thrilled by the enthusiastic response which has broken all franchise records, and we want to thank our community for their incredible support. Launch is only the beginning: we have planned regular updates with new themes and experiences, and very strong post-launch support with a mix of free and paid content, for a long time to come.”

Unlike many other arcade racers, The Crew franchise has differentiated itself by allowing players to take control over a whole host of vehicles, not just cars. Furthermore, the seamless way in which you can switch from a car to a boat or plane means that there is very little downtime – great for a racing series.

While encouraging to see The Crew Motorfest having the franchise’s biggest launch, it will be interesting to get concrete details on total sales and player numbers at some point in the not-too-distant-future.
