System Shock Remake coming to consoles with expanded ending and more

After a lengthy development, Nightdive Studios’ System Shock Remake finally released on PC in May of last year, faithfully recreating the 1994 immersive sim classic. Console players unfortunately were told that they had to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the game. Finally however, a release date has been confirmed alongside some surprising extras.

Making the announcement via a press release, the team at Nightdive Studios said “The award-winning System Shock remake, based on the iconic 1994 sci-fi action game is coming to consoles on 21 May 2024, featuring an expanded ending, a new female hacker protagonist and more!”

Arriving almost exactly one year on from its PC release, the console version of System Shock Remake promises “a newly reworked ending that upgrades the final confrontation with SHODAN!” alongside the option to “choose between a male or female-presenting Hacker protagonist.”

In terms of graphics, the game is said to run at “Up to 4K 60FPS visuals on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X”. It is unknown whether this means there will be multiple performance modes, or if the use of “up to” refers more to a dynamic resolution setup. We will have to wait and see, but hopefully it is the former.

In a welcome move, System Shock Remake will be available both digitally and in disc form for those who prefer to own their games physically. Unfortunately – though unsurprisingly – the Xbox One and PS4 versions will be digital-only.

Though console players have had to wait patiently for a port of System Shock Remake, it looks as though it will have been more than worth the wait.
