Square Enix releases new Final Fantasy XIV trailer, details patch 5.1 and NieR raid

A new trailer for Final Fantasy XIV’s 5.1 patch has been released, detailing all the new additions and changes.

The patch, titled “Vows of Virtue, Deeds of Cruelty”, will be bringing with it an abundance of new content. The patch itself shares its name with the new story quests being introduced with the patch. The story will be exploring the effects of Hades being defeated, and the consequences of the players’ victory.

The patch also brings with it a new dungeon to explore, new Beast Tribe quests, custom deliveries, and a new game will be featured in the Gold Saucer. Final Fantasy XIV will also be overhauling the crafting and gathering system, introducing quality of life improvements to these mechanics.

A New Game+ mode is also being added, allowing players to replay the main scenario quests of all the previous expansions. Fellowships introduce a system similar to clans in other games, allowing you to join up to 1000 players in a fellowship, where announcements, recruitments for games, and general communication can take place.

Lastly, the patch brings with it the new alliance raid dungeon “YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse, The Copied Factory”. This raid is in collaboration with the NieR: Automata series, and features YOKO TARO and Yosuke Saito as guest creators.

Patch 5.1 has been long awaited, especially due to the commercial and critical success of NieR: Automata. The trailer includes footage of the raid, accompanied by a remix to “Weight of the World” composed by Keiichi Okabe.

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is one of the highest rated games of the year, and it seems like patch 5.1 is only going to make it better. Patch 5.1 will be releasing on the 29th of October. To watch the trailer for Vows of Virtue, Deeds of Cruelty, click here.
