Splitgate devs are teasing something new

Back in 2022, the excellent and much-loved free-to-play Halo/Portal-inspired FPS Splitgate was announced to be ceasing development, with the team at the time saying “in order to build the game fans deserve – and to build it in a way that isn’t trying to retrofit and live operate an existing product – we are ending feature development of Splitgate”. While we still have no concrete information on the team’s next game, we might have just gotten our first tease.

Releasing a brief video onto their YouTube channel titled “Say Goodbye to Splitgate” the team at 1047 Games shared what appears to be a mundane clip of the player character walking around their pre-match base alongside the caption “?” – perhaps suggesting that we keep an eye out for new information soon.

For the uninitiated, Splitgate released in Early access back in 2019 to a wave of praise and success. In fact, it is this overwhelming success which ultimately lead to the game’s cancellation, with the team saying at the time:

“Splitgate achieved a level of success that we could not have anticipated and that few indie games are fortunate to reach” – with the team wanting to take all they have learned and apply it to a brand new game in the Splitgate universe.

With the team seemingly officially marking the death of Splitgate, it might not be too long before we hear word of the game’s successor.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Splitgate? Was ending support the right move? Can the team recapture the hype surrounding Splitgate? Let us know down below.
