Sony “overpaid” for Bungie claims ex-employees

Last week, it was announced that Bungie would be going through another major round of lay-offs, bringing to light scrutiny surrounding the studio’s upper management – in particular CEO Pete Parsons. In the wake of all this, former Bungie employees have claimed that Sony overpaid for the acquisition of Bungie.

In an interview conducted by Stephen totilo (and reported on by TheGamePost), a number of ex-Bungie employees spoke to Totilo on their thoughts on the whole matter, saying:

“I think Sony overpaid for Bungie. I think Bungie sold things they were just not able to deliver.”

Adding to this, three former employees claimed that the higher ups at the studio “overstated their studio’s financial prospects to Sony, and Wednesday’s cuts were needed to stop continued losses that amounted to an ongoing reality check.”

For the uninitiated, recent reports following the announcement that over 200 Bungie employees had been let go revealed that the studio’s CEO Pete Parsons has during this time engaged in unhealthy purchasing habits, buying multiple million dollar cars while the studio struggled to stay afloat.

With Bungie being by far PlayStation’s most expensive acquisition ($3.6 Billion), it’ll be interesting to see how the console manufacturer chooses to proceed given the circumstances.
