Sony is reportedly “paying close attention to the handheld market”

There was once a time when PlayStation stood competitive in both the home and handheld console markets, releasing classic systems such as the PSP and PS Vita. Unfortunately, the financial failings of the latter system saw Sony leave the handheld space. In the wake of the success of the PS Portal however, the console manufacturer is reportedly “paying close attention to the handheld market.”

As reported by known leaker Tom Henderson, “The PlayStation Portal was very successful and [Sony] are paying very close attention to the current handheld market.”

As mentioned by Henderson, the PlayStation Portal has been a surprise hit, with the remote play powered handheld exceeding PlayStation’s expectations – and is even the no.1 best selling gaming accessory of the year so far.

Beyond this, the overwhelming success of the Nintendo Switch as well as the positive energy surrounding PC handhelds such as the Steam Deck clearly shows that there is still a market for portable gaming. Hopefully Sony is indeed listening.
