Sonic Prime Netflix show gets release date and new voice actor

Sonic the Hedgehog has had many TV shows over the years, ranging greatly in tone, scope and quality. Though it has been a while since the last Sonic show, the Blue Blur is returning to the medium, with the Sonic Prime Netflix show announced to be coming in December.

Back in early 2021, it was announced that Netflix was working on a new Sonic the Hedgehog TV show called Sonic Prime. Little was known at the time, but concept art did suggest that the show would involve some form of dimension hopping.

Now, the studio has released a much more comprehensive trailer, showcasing new character designs, details of the show’s plot, and more, including the show’s release date and cast list.

Launching on Netflix on the 15th of December 2022, Sonic Prime features:

  • Deven Mack as Sonic
  • Brian Drummond as Eggman
  • Ashleigh Ball as Tails
  • Shannon Chan-Kent as Amy Rose
  • Adam Nurada as Knuckles
  • Ian Hanlin as Shadow & Big the Cat
  • Kazumi Evans as Rouge the Bat

Fans of the series will note that this represents a whole new cast of voice actors, but with one familiar face – Brian Drummond. Though he has been cast as Eggman in Sonic Prime, Drummond originally voiced Sonic the Hedgehog himself during the Adventure Era of the franchise.

Sonic is now being voiced by three different people concurrently, with Roger Craig Smith playing Sonic in the games, Ben Schwartz voicing Sonic in the films, and now Deven Mack as Sonic in Prime.
