Sniper Elite studio’s Project Archipelago cancelled just 3 months after its announcement

Project Archipelago was a team-based Battle Royale in development by the studio behind the Sniper Elite series. Announced just a few months ago in August, the game has already been cancelled – with Concord flopping reportedly being part of the reason.

As reported by known leakers Insider Gaming, Project Archipelago from Rebellion has now been cancelled, just 3 months after its initial announcement (and following alpha playtests).

Project Archipelago cancelled

According to the publication, the project was axed due to its financier Tencent deciding to pull out – with higher-ups at Rebellion indicating that their reasoning for doing so was due to being “skittish” following the massive failure of PlayStation’s live-service shooter Concord.

Little was known about Project Archipelago, but according to Rebellion and Level Infinite it was going to “utilise the unique skillsets of both organisations to create a new gameplay experience”. Unfortunately we won't be seeing the fruits of their labour.

Fortunately for fans of Rebellion, their main project, Atomfall, is still set to release on the 27th of March 2025; described as “a new survival-action game [which] will see you explore, scavenge, craft, barter and fight your way through beautifully recreated scenery in search of answers.”
