Shadow Warrior 3 is launching day-one on ‘PlayStation Now’

PlayStation Now is one of Sony’s two main video game subscription services and is structured in a way similar to that of Xbox’s Game Pass. Ahead of the official announcement of Sony’s rumoured PS Now/Plus revamp, the console manufacturer has revealed one of PS Now’s free games for March – and it’s a big one.

Shadow Warrior 3 is an upcoming first-person action shooter developed by Flying Wild Hog and published by Devolver Digital. Discussing the game’s upcoming 1st of March release date, Bartek Sawicki – the Lead Producer at Flying Wild Hog – took to the PlayStation Blog to say:

“The katanas are sharpened and the dragon hunt is about to begin! I’m Bartek, the lead producer on Shadow Warrior 3, and our team here at Flying Wild Hog are excited to give you all a fresh look at our game before it launches on March 1. Stay tuned though because this post is getting a few updates throughout the day, with more videos to dive a little deeper into the game. Oh, and one more thing – Shadow Warrior 3 will be a PlayStation Now title at launch.”

With that, Sawicki then went on to discuss many aspects to the game, including Gunplay vs. Swordplay; Executions & Gore Weapons; the grappling hook and more (the post of which can be found HERE). Perhaps the most interesting piece of information however was the fact that Shadow Warrior 3 is launching day-one on PS Now.

This is a curious move by Sony, as the console manufacturer is said to be working on a complete revamp for PlayStation’s subscription services. Perhaps the oddest decision knowing this is the fact that PS Now is getting Shadow Warrior 3 and not PS Plus, despite the latter reportedly being the service set to ultimately keep its name following the revamp.

Whether for PS Now or PS Plus, Shadow Warrior 3 coming day-one to PlayStation subscribers indicates that Sony is making an effort to compete with Microsoft on its terms – as well as their own.
