Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has sold over 10 million copies

After working on Souls-likes for over a decade, FromSoftware branched out back in 2019, releasing the Activision-published Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Despite being a brand new IP, the game seems to have resonated with a great deal of people, as the studio has now announced that Sekiro has sold over 10 million copies.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official FromSoftware page revealed this massive milestone, saying (as translated by Google) “SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Thank you to everyone who played this game.”

For comparison, Elden Ring – another new IP from the studio – managed to sell over 20 million copies within its first year. That said, Elden Ring fell much closer to the likes of Dark Souls and Bloodborne in terms of both gameplay and aesthetics, and so it makes sense as to why that game in particular performed so well.

Still, 10 million copies sold is nothing to sniff at, especially for a game which was in many ways a much greater departure when compared to prior FromSoft titles. With the studio now taking chances on more experimental games such as the recently-released Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, it will be interesting to see whether the team ever chooses to return to the Sekiro series. Here’s to hoping.
