PSVR2 FPS Firewall Ultra gets August release date

Firewall Zero Hour was a 1st-gen PlayStation VR title which managed to make the most of the substandard hardware to create a compelling and highly flexible multiplayer first-person shooter experience, Announced late last year, a sequel to Zero Hour is set to arrive on the latest and greatest PSVR2 – with Firewall Ultra now getting an August release date.

Making the announcement on the PlayStation Blog, David Jagneaux, the Strategic Communications Manager for developer ‘First Contact Entertainment’ said “Ever since we announced Firewall Ultra, the next evolution of the Firewall franchise, last year here on the PlayStation Blog, the outpour of encouragement from the community has been nothing short of amazing. The pure excitement in all your comments, messages, tweets, and posts have us all even more motivated to make the game as great as it can be.”

The team released a new gameplay trailer showing off a number of exciting snippets from a PvP match. While the trailer is quite short, the team also announced the game’s release date, saying “today we’re thrilled to announce that pre-orders are officially live for Firewall Ultra starting today with a launch date of August 24, 2023 at 8am PDT! [4PM UK Time].”

Being a PSVR2 exclusive, Firewall Ultra will take advantage of the headset’s unique features, including eye tracking, which “enables you to intuitively swap weapons and bring up HUD indicators through cameras built into the PS VR2 headset”. The game will utilise the PSVR2 controllers’ improved haptics, as well as the DualSense-like adaptive trigger technology – making for a substantially more immersive experience.

Firewall Ultra launches on the 24th of August starting at $39.99 (alongside a Digital Deluxe edition for $59.99).

KitGuru says: What do you think of Firewall Ultra? Did you play the first game? How transformative do you think the haptics and triggers will be in VR? Let us know down below.
