PS5 update brings UI improvements and Trophy overhaul

Unlike Microsoft, which tries to unify the gaming experience no matter where you are playing, Sony continues to put more emphasis on console generations, especially when it comes to each console’s user interface. Though it was somewhat criticised at launch, the PS5’s software has seen a number of improvements – including a new overhaul of the trophy system.

As reported by PlayStation-focused website PushSquare, Sony has overhauled the way the PS5’s Activity Cards are presented to players. Where previously the Activity Cards would take up a significant amount of screen space, often requiring players to scroll horizontally. This is no longer the case thanks to the update, which groups the Activity Cards into a compact yet still readable vertical list – in many ways looking cleaner while also being much more functionally useful.

Similar to the Activity Cards, PlayStation Trophies are now condensed into an equally small yet clean and clear vertically scrolling list. Quite excitingly, players can also now pin trophy challenges to their screen, making it much easier for completionists to stay in the game while still tracking their trophies.

The PS5 launched with relatively half-baked software, and so it is encouraging to see the system getting not only visual improvements, but more importantly, functional ones.
