PS5-exclusive Project EVE officially called ‘Stellar Blade’

Almost exactly one year ago at Sony’s September 2021 PlayStation State of Play, the console manufacturer announced Project EVE: a spectacle action game in the vein of Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, offering “fluid and zestful” combat. One year later and Project EVE has been shown off once again – this time with an official title.

Reintroduced as Stellar Blade, the team at SHIFT UP Corporation released a Story trailer for the game, in which with a heavy tone it was stated that players will “follow EVE on her quest to save earth from an overwhelming foe.”

The tone of the game itself seems rather heavy, with melancholic music and vocals playing in the background throughout the trailer – offering tonal comparisons to the likes of NieR: Automata and other Keiichi Okabe-scored titles.

It seems as though the past year of development for Stellar Blade has resonated well with Sony, with the game now having been announced to be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and as such will be a PS5 console exclusive.

While we still do not have a release date, it has now been confirmed that Stellar Blade will launch sometime next year in 2023. With Bayonetta 3 being exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, it is exciting to see what a character-action game such as Stellar Blade can look like when paired with the power of the PS5.
