PS5-exclusive 3D platformer ASTRO BOT officially announced

While PlayStation have mostly moved away from mascots in recent generations, Team Asobi appear to be reviving the genre with its ASTRO BOT series. Following a PSVR1 game back in 2018 – and the excellent PS5 pack-in title Astro’s Playroom – Astro Bot looks ready to hit the mainstream with his first major console release; arriving this September.

Announced during last night’s State of Play, ASTRO BOT is getting a full blown release in the form of a PS5-exclusive 3D platformer.

Just as Astro Bot: Rescue Mission represented one of the best VR platformers, ASTRO BOT for PS5 looks set to take on Super Mario himself with an adorable-looking, polished and mechanically fun/creative 3D platformer.

Those who experienced Astro’s Playroom will know what to expect from the game – taking full advantage of all the PS5’s hardware features, from the DualSense’s haptics to the touchpad; gyroscope and triggers – to name a few.

Based on the trailer, ASTRO BOT will be taking all this and more to the next level, with seemingly boundless creativity having been put into the game.  Back in 2020 we got a mere taste of Astro Bot; this September we’ll be feasting.
