Pedro Pascal will play Joel in HBO’s The Last of Us

Ever since it was first announced that HBO would be making a TV show based on the PlayStation exclusive The Last of Us, many fans have been speculating on who might be playing the two main characters, Joel and Ellie. While names such as Hugh Jackman and Kaitlyn Dever were thrown around, HBO has now revealed which two actors will be playing these iconic roles.

It has now officially been revealed that Joel will be played by Pedro Pascal, while Ellie will be played by Bella Ramsey. Pascal of course, most recently played the titular role of The Mandalorian, but is also well known for playing Oberyn Martell in HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Bella Ramsey is most recognisable for playing another role in HBO’s Game of Thrones, namely the confident and likeable Lyanna Mormot. Ramsey however has also featured in a number of other productions including the HBO original ‘His Dark Materials’ and voices the character HIlda from the TV show of the same name.

Though neither actor perhaps looks identical to the original character designs for Joel and Ellie (as many of the various fan castings did) there is no denying that both actors have proven themselves to offer a wide range of acting talents.

With both Joel and Ellie confirmed now, it will be interesting to see how long we have to wait to start seeing production photos, and perhaps even a trailer of these two characters in action.
