Nintendo Switch 2 reportedly delayed to 2025

For what feels like forever now, we have heard an increasing number of rumours surrounding the inevitable successor to Nintendo’s incredibly popular Switch console. With that, it seemed as though 2024 would be the year that we finally get our hands on this next-gen system. Unfortunately, it appears as though this won’t be the case.

We have heard a lot of talk surrounding the Switch 2, with rumours previously claiming that the system is planned to launch later this year.

While initially intended to be the case, according to VGC multiple sources have confirmed that Nintendo has now opted to push the release to Q1 of 2025, claiming that “third-party game companies were recently briefed on an internal delay in Nintendo’s next-gen launch timing, from late 2024 to early the following year.”

According to the report, the main reason for the delay is to ensure a stronger software library for launch – with many Nintendo titles said to be coming early next year.

While this might be disappointing to some who were looking forward to the illusive next-gen handheld, we might still get an official announcement of the Switch this year – with its release following a few months later in 2025 (similar to what we saw with the 1st-gen Switch back in 2017).

Nintendo has unsurprisingly made no comments on the matter, meaning we will just have to wait and see how this all pans out.
