Next-gen Xbox will offer both a console and handheld according to reports

While there were some fears that Microsoft was preparing to bow out of the console race, instead focusing on its role as a 3rd-party publisher, the console maker confirmed on multiple accounts that they are working on the next generation of Xbox consoles. It seems Microsoft will once again release two Xbox systems – but this time one will be portable.

Xbox’s Phil Spencer has been big on handhelds recently, with the executive all-but-confirming that the next Xbox will be a Steam Deck-like handheld system.

According to Windows Central “Xbox is full-steam ahead with its next set of console hardware, which we tentatively believe based on our sources to include at least both a traditional-style successor to the Xbox Series X, and Microsoft's first real foray into Xbox handheld gaming with its own take on the Steam Deck.”

While many enjoy the Xbox Series S, the weaker powered console has received some criticism for its power disparity compared to the Series X.

If there will indeed be a home and portable Xbox system, then at least the disparity will make more sense and be less noticeable. It’ll be interesting to see what Microsoft’s finalised next-gen plans look like.
