More Call of Duty remasters could be on their way

Call of Duty has been a staple of the video games industry for almost two decades, with publisher Activision ensuring the chart-topping franchise released a game every year. With this no longer being the case under Microsoft, it seems the console manufacturer will supplement mainline releases with remasters of older COD titles.

According to known Call of Duty leaker ‘RalphsValve’ “Activision are reportedly considering releasing Remastered Call of Duty titles repurposed for newer consoles to fill out the empty space between Premium Call of Duty titles.”

A couple remastered Call of Duty titles have released in the past, namely updates to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 – though in the case of the latter only the campaign was brought over.

Under Microsoft, these remasters could come in many different forms. Microsoft has promised to release future Call of Duty titles to PlayStation, but it is possible that these remasters could be exclusive to Xbox due to them being older games.

Alternatively, the COD remasers could take the form of free upgrades for Xbox Game Pass owners – with PlayStation fans having to purchase them. Lastly, there is also the question of whether these remasters will include multiplayer, or if they will only launch with the campaigns. We will have to wait and see.
