Monster Hunter Rise is the second-best selling Capcom game ever

The Monster Hunter series ballooned to great success following the release of the highly popular Monster Hunter World, with it having sold over 18 million copies since its launch in 2018. That being said, its sequel, Monster Hunter Rise, is well on its way to dethrone it having officially sold more than 11 million copies in less than a year and a half – and on fewer systems.

Making the announcement on Twitter, game director Yasunori Ichinose said (via the official Monster Hunter account) “This is director Ichinose. Monster Hunter Rise has now sold over 11 million units worldwide! Thank you so much. We've got much more in store for you, and hope Hunters continue to support #Sunbreak in the future!”

With more than 11 million copies sold, Monster Hunter Rise is now the second best-selling Capcom game of all time, only behind the aforementioned Monster Hunter World. That being said, Rise’s success is even more impressive when considering the fact that unlike World (which was released across PS4, Xbox One and PC), Monster Hunter Rise originally launched exclusively on Nintendo Switch, with the PC release only coming out earlier this year.

With Monster Hunter games occupying 3 of the top 5 best selling Capcom games of all time, it is safe to assume that the franchise is only set to grow further from here. It will be highly interesting to see what the publisher has planned for the next game, and what platforms it will release on.
