Metaphor: ReFantazio is reportedly getting an anime adaptation

After spending years working on the Shin Megami Tensei franchise and its spin-off series Persona, JRPG juggernauts ATLUS released their first new IP in ages with Metaphor: ReFantazio. Selling over 1 million copies in its first 24 hours, the IP has proven to be a hit – with an anime adapted now rumoured to be on its way.

As reported by the anime-focused leaker AniRave via Twitter, an anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio is said to be in the works, with “talks” currently ongoing.

If true, such an adaptation would not be too surprising as ATLUS has had many of its prior games turned into anime, including but not limited to Persona 3, 4 and 5.

That said, given the fact that unlike Persona, Metaphor: ReFantazio is a brand new IP with no prior history, making an anime adaptation could be somewhat risky.

However, with the game selling 1 million copies in its first day; being nominated for Game of the Year and sitting pretty at the top of the 2024 review leaderboards with a Metacritic score of 94, Metaphor: ReFantazio could easily become ATLUS golden goose given enough time.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Metaphor: ReFantazio? Would you be interested in an animated adaptation? Would you want it to be faithful to the game, or tell a slightly different story? Let us know down below.
