Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has gone Gold

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is by far one of the biggest first-party PlayStation games set to arrive in 2023. With just one month left to go before launch, the team at Insomniac Games have now announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has officially gone Gold.

Making the announcement via Twitter, Insomniac Games released a short video featuring the game’s main cast in which they talk about its developmental status. Nadji Jeter (who plays Miles Morales) kicks off the video by saying:

“Ladies and gentleman, the news is official. It has happened. The Time is now. Not bronze, not silver, but gold. Spider-Man 2 has gone gold, baby. That’s right! That’s right you heard it! I’m going to tell the whole world. Hold on. Hold on. EVERYONE, SPIDER-MAN 2 HAS GONE GOLD!”

For the uninitiated, ‘Going Gold’ means that the Spider-Man 2 master disc has been submitted to the game’s publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment. Following the submission of the gold master, discs can be pressed with finalised software and digital storefronts can upload the 1.0 version of the game ready for release. It’s a process that every game in development goes through, and means that (aside from post-launch patches) Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is complete and ready to play.

Insomniac Games is a highly efficient studio and so it isn't surprising to see that the game has gone gold a month ahead of its 20th of October release. Still, this marks an exciting milestone and means that fans are closer than ever to getting their hands on Spider-Man 2.
