Marvel Rivals appears to be the new hotness, with the Overwatch-like Hero Shooter breaking concurrent player records with its recent release of Season 1. Wanting to keep up this current trajectory, the team at NetEase Games revealed that they plan to introduce new characters every 45 days or so in order to keep “everyone excited in our community.”
In an interview conducted by Metro, Marvel Rivals’ game director Guangyun Chen sat down to discuss all aspects of the game and its ongoing success. When asked about the current planned release cadence for new heroes, Chen claimed that “Every season we’ll be rolling out fresh seasonal stories, new maps, and new heroes.”
Going into further detail, the director revealed that “The length of one season is three months. And for each half of the season, we will introduce a new hero. We just eventually want to continue to enhance the experience, and, you know, keep everyone excited in our community.”
Marvel Rivals launched with 33 total playable characters, having now added two more with the most recent update (The Invisible Woman and Mr Fantastic) for a total of 35. Given just how many characters there are in the Marvel comics universe, it will be interesting to see who they choose to add to the game, and when.
