Mario + Rabbids sequel finally hits 3 million copies sold

One of the earliest surprise successes to come from the Nintendo Switch was Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, with the Mario/Rabbids crossover strategy game going on to sell over 7 and a half million copies. Its sequel, released in 2022, unfortunately fell under the radar, with Ubisoft themselves admitting that it had underperformed. While nowhere near the total sales for Kingdom Battle, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope has at the very least now reached a new sales milestone.

As reported by VGC, a little under a year and a half since launch, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope has managed to sell 3 million copies. While nowhere near the same level as its first entry (which went on to sell over 7.5 million copies), this latest milestone marks an encouraging turn for the game which was deemed somewhat of a failure mere months following its launch.

Back in June of last year, Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot spoke on Sparks of Hope, revealing that Nintendo even advised them against doing a sequel, saying at the time “Nintendo [has advised] that it’s better to do one iteration on each machine. We were a bit too early, we should have waited for [the next console].”

Though Ubisoft has yet to officially comment on this milestone, it will be interesting to see whether the publisher does come out and publicly address it – or whether they have simply moved on.
