Life is Strange: Double Exposure lets you choose the first game’s canon ending

The release of Life is Strange back in 2014 helped to revitalise the waning choice-based adventure format with an emotional and evocative story alongside interesting gameplay mechanics. Unlike many games in the genre, Life is Strange featured two wildly different endings – both of which were considered canon at the time. With the upcoming: LiS: Double Exposure seeing the return of Maxine Caulfield, the team have revealed that the sequel will take your final choice from the first game as canon.

Following the official surprise announcement of Life is Strange: Double Exposure during Summer Game Fest, the team at Deck Nine hosted an extended livestream where they showed off gameplay alongside offering a ton of details.

One of the most interesting is the fact that the game will take whatever ending you chose in the first game as canon – a welcome surprise considering just how vastly different the endings were.

That said, as mentioned, the team behind the first game stated at the time that there is no canon ending, because the canon ending is whichever the player chooses.

Deck Nine seem to be honouring Dontnod’s (developers of the first LiS) wishes as players will be able to pick which ending they deemed canon at the beginning for Double Exposure. The original Life is Strange was something special, and so hopefully Double Exposure is just as good.
