“It would be difficult” to release a Witcher 4 expansion claims CDPR

Following the release of Cyberpunk 2077, studio CD Projekt Red offered fans insight into their next decade worth of developments, revealing that they plan to release a Witcher remake, a new Witcher trilogy and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Given their schedule, it makes sense that according to CDPR, there are no plans for The Witcher 4 to receive any expansions in the vein of Hearts of Stone / Blood and Wine.

During the company’s recent earnings call (as transcribed by GamesRadar), the joint CEO for CDPR – Michał Nowakowski – was asked whether future Witcher titles would receive any expansions a-la The Witcher 3, stating:

“Given the very ambitious project pipeline, does the company see room for developing expansions for the new Witcher saga?” to which Nowakowski responded:

“As you mentioned in the question, the plans are pretty ambitious. Specifically, it's to release three Witcher games within a six-year period. It would be difficult, to be very honest, for us to add an expansion to the upcoming trilogy. This is where we are here and now with this particular issue.”

While this does not mean that the games won’t see any post-launch support, don’t expect any major DLCs or expansions moving forward.

That said, given that they hope to release an entire trilogy in the span of 6 years, fans shouldn’t be hurting for more Witcher any time soon – especially with The Witcher 3’s Song of the Past arriving next year.
