Gears of War 6 will not be announced at E3

After taking a year off, E3 is back in 2021 with a new all-digital format. One of the biggest companies to confirm its presence is Microsoft. While little is currently known regarding what the console manufacturer has planned for the event, industry insiders have claimed that one title which definitely won't be there is Gears of War 6.

According to Jeff Grubb, who has become a reliable leaker over the course of the past year, Microsoft will not be showing off Gears of War 6 at its upcoming E3 showcase. While some fans may be disappointed to hear this, according to Grubb, the reason for its absence is due to the fact that Microsoft has “too much else going on.”

Gears 5 released back in September 2019, and with a roughly 3 year gap between each mainline entry, it is understandable that fans may have expected to see the next game this year, with a potential 2022 release date.

With Microsoft now owning so many first party studios, especially after the acquisition of Bethesda, it makes sense that the console manufacturer would want to save some announcements in order to make sure that all of their many upcoming titles are given the spotlight.

With the increase in digital showcases, and the relatively lower importance of E3, it will be interesting to see when Microsoft plans to announce the next entry in the much loved Gears of War franchise.
