Future Mortal Kombat 1 DLCs reportedly cancelled

Contrary to its prior release schedule, NetherRealm went straight from MK11 to Mortal Kombat 1 – skipping their previous cadence of breaking up Mortal Kombat releases with a new Injustice game. Whether it be due to an oversaturation of the series, or the recent expansion which failed to make a mark, it seems future DLC for MK1 might have been cancelled.

As reported by known Mortal Kombat leaker FateUnknown via Reddit, a 3rd Kombat Pack and a second story expansion for MK1 was reportedly planned, however both have now been cancelled.

According to the leak, a couple Kameo characters might make an appearance, but all future proper DLC characters have now been scrapped.

Mortal Kombat 1 cancelled

When asked why NetherRealm decided to cancel its future DLC plans, FateUnknown stated that the Khaos Reigns Expansion sold poorly. Beyond this, the Steam page for the expansion holds a ‘mostly negative’ review rating due to a lacklustre and short story, as well as its high asking price of £39.99.

The decision to go straight from Mortal Kombat 11 to MK1 was a curious one. Unfortunately, it seems like it did not pay off. It’ll be interesting to see where NetherRealm chooses to go from here.
