Fallout 4’s next-gen update woes on PS Plus finally fully fixed

After much anticipation and a great deal of waiting, Fallout 4’s ‘next-gen’ update finally released last week. The ‘free’ update had issues on PlayStation Plus Extra however – though this was eventually fixed. Those who owned FO4 through the PS Plus Collection however were still unable to upgrade. Fortunately, this too has now been fixed.

Announced to be a free upgrade to all Fallout 4 players, the next-gen update launched on the 25th of April, bringing 4K 60fps and more to PS5 and Xbox Series players. Unfortunately, while the upgrade was available for Game Pass users, PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers were seemingly being asked to cough up an additional  £15.99 for the upgrade.

Bethesda were quick to respond, and PS Plus Extra players have been enjoying the update for a few days now. Unfortunately, when asked whether those who obtained the game back in 2020/2021 via Sony’s PS5 PlayStation Plus launch promotion would get the upgrade, Bethesda had this to say at the time: “We do not have any information regarding PS5 Catalogue or PS+ Essentials.”

Though the team themselves have not offered an official update on the situation, those who own Fallout 4 through the PS Plus Collection are now able to upgrade – though it is somewhat awkward.

Still, it is encouraging to see that these issues have now been resolved – especially while the Fallout zeitgeist remains hot.
