Fallout 4’s next-gen update issues on PS Plus ‘mostly’ resolved

Late last week, Bethesda finally released their long-awaited ‘Next-Gen’ update for Fallout 4 – bringing native PS5 and Series X|S support for the 2015 title. Unfortunately, the free update appeared to be unavailable to PlayStation Plus players. Bethesda has now responded and ‘mostly’ rectified the situation.

Announced to be a free upgrade to all Fallout 4 players, the next-gen update launched on the 25th of April, bringing 4K 60fps and more to PS5 and Xbox Series players. Unfortunately, while the upgrade was available for Game Pass users, PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers were seemingly being asked to cough up an additional  £15.99 for the upgrade.

Bethesda has since responded, stating that “We've seen some confusion regarding the free Fallout 4 next-gen update for PlayStation Plus Extra members. The Fallout 4 next-gen update will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra members through the PlayStation Game Catalog. Your patience is appreciated while the teams work on this.”

PlayStation Plus Extra players can indeed now play the native PS5 version of Fallout 4, however, when asked whether those who obtained the game back in 2020/2021 via Sony’s PS5 launch promotion would get the upgrade, the support team had this to say:

“Fallout 4's Next-Gen Update will be available for PS+ Extra members. We do not have any information regarding PS5 Catalogue or PS+ Essentials.”

So, unfortunately, unless we hear more from the team in future, those who got Fallout 4 back when the PS5 launched might be out of luck.
