Epic Games’ Rumbleverse reportedly shutting down after just 6 months

The overwhelming success of Fortnite saw developers and publishers far and wide rush to create their own live service experiences – hoping to carve out their own slice of the pie, Unfortunately, live services are hard to maintain, especially in a saturated market – and so even big-business-backed battle royales such as Epic Games’ Rumbleverse are now seemingly being shut down.

This report comes from industry insider Tom Henderson who claimed via Twitter that “Epic Games' Rumbleverse will be shutting down at the end of February”. When asked by one respondent for more details, Henderson claimed that “I think store delistings start today. So there's probably an announcement coming.”

For the uninitiated, Rumbleverse is a free-to-play brawler battle royale which attempts to carve out its own audience thanks to the title's focus on melee combat. The game was developed by porting pros Iron Galaxy and was released just last year on the 11th of August 2022.

If Rumbleverse is indeed shutting down, then it will have had an impressively short life span of just 6 months. Of course, publisher Epic Games can take the financial hit, but as was made clear by Marvel’s Avengers, many more live-service titles are likely set to die in 2023.
