DOOM composer Mick Gordon announces brand new studio ‘emptyvessel’

As more and more developers get scorned by traditional AAA development, we have seen an increase in these industry veterans forging their own paths by founding new studios. Mick Gordon of DOOM and Wolfenstein fame has now announced the formation of ‘emptyvessel’ – said to be “THE NEW WAVE OF GAMING.”

Making the announcement on Twitter alongside a teaser trailer featuring Gordon’s iconic sound profile, the veteran composer said “Meet emptyvessel: a new AAA studio founded by veterans from id Software, Naughty Dog, and Activision.”

Explaining this new venture further, the studio’s website states that “emptyvessel is at the vanguard of building games that feel great to play. We are passionate creators who share a vision of disrupting the expected ways and developing our own that empower our visionary team.”

While the team had nothing to share so far regarding their first project, emptyvessel as a studio is described as “a team of industry veterans who specialize in the immersive shooter space. We believe that with Creative Independence, Comes Greatness.”

In going to their team page, we can see devs from all across the video games industry and beyond, with past credits including DOOM; Forza Motorsport; Blade Runner 2049; Borderlands; Uncharted; Killing Floor 2; Max Payne; The Last of Us; Call of Duty and more – so it’s safe to say the studio is not short of talent.

While it will likely be quite some time until we hear from emptyvessel again, it is exciting to know that something new is brewing.
