Donkey Kong Country finally comes to the Switch

When Nintendo first announced its Nintendo Switch Online service, one of the core selling points was the ability for subscribers to play many of the console manufacturer’s best retro titles. For the longest time however, one of the company’s most-loved titles was missing from the list. Now, finally Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can play Donkey Kong Country, as it is set to join the service.

For July, Nintendo will be adding three new titles to its Nintendo Switch Online service – two from the SNES and one from the NES. The three games in question are:

  • The Immortal (NES)
  • Natsume Championship Wrestling (SNES)
  • Donkey Kong Country (SNES)

In The Immortal, players will “explore the Labyrinth of Eternity,” as you “delve into the dungeon’s depths to uncover the mysteries of the ancient ruins” where “your teacher Mordamir awaits below!”

Natsume Championship Wrestling has players “Choose from 12 outrageous wrestlers and bring the pain!” Featuring “a robust grappling system and over 50 moves to master, experience the most realistic wrestling action of the 16-bit era! Test your might against the AI, or up to two players can compete in exhibition, tag team, and round robin matches!”

The headlining title is without a doubt the SNES classic: Donkey Kong Country. “Armed with chest-pounding muscle, mighty barrel rolls, and awesome vine-swinging skills, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong set out to face their adversaries, K. Rool and his reptilian crew of Kremlings”. Featuring impressive visuals (for the system) and an excellent soundtrack, Donkey Kong Country is a must-play.

Though the service has become much less consistent in its output than it was at launch, Nintendo is slowly but surely bringing its back catalogue of classic titles to the Switch. All three titles will arrive on the service on the 15th of July. The full list of NSO games can be found HERE.
