Through its many decades worth of interesting incarnations, Tetris remains heavily tied to Nintendo as a platform – with its two biggest entries easily being the OG Game Boy Tetris as well as the classic NES Tetris. In a surprise and welcome announcement, Nintendo is bringing the latter of the two to its Nintendo Switch Online service next week.
Making the surprise announcement on Twitter, the official Nintendo of America page revealed that “A puzzle classic returns! Tetris for NES comes to Nintendo Switch Online on 12/12!”
Alongside this, the popular NSO-exclusive Tetris 99 will be getting a Grand Prix event themed around the iconic classic NES version.
For the uninitiated, Tetris for the NES remains one of the most beloved and definitive versions of Classic Tetris, with the 3-decade-old title being the basis for the annual Classic Tetris World Championships.
It coming to Switch means millions from younger generations can soon get into what many consider to be the best incarnation of one of the best games of all time.
