Bayonetta creator “may have to take the full saga to the grave” following his departure

In the wake of his departure from PlatinumGames, Hideki Kamiya has started up a YouTube channel where the co-founder has been hosting many Q&A sessions. In his latest video, Kamiya opened up on the future of the Bayonetta series and how it might proceed with or without him.

In his latest YouTube video ‘Kamiya Responds to Your Comments! Part 3’ the Bayonetta creator addressed the future of the series, responding to the question “I wonder what’s gonna happen to the Bayonetta franchise now” by stating:

“I worked on Bayonetta 1,2,3, (and Origins). I've talked about this in various interviews, that the Bayonetta series would consist of a total of nine episodes, and that I wanted to grow the franchise as the ‘Bayonetta ‘Saga,’ but it seems like I may have to take the full saga to the grave with me.”

Kamiya continued, “It's a shame. It's not like I own the Bayonetta IP, but I suppose those who do will probably keep it going.”

While opinions on the 3rd Bayonetta entry were somewhat mixed, the franchise remains one of PlatinumGames’ biggest original IPs and so it is highly likely that the franchise will continue – but perhaps not in the direction Kamiya himself was planning to take it. We will have to wait and see what becomes of Bayonetta and PlatinumGames in a post-Kamiya world.
