Astro Bot takes home the GOTY at the 2024 Game Awards

The 2024 Game Awards have now come and gone, announcing a ton of cool upcoming games while dishing out trophies to those released over the past year. That said, one game seemed to have come out on top, with Team Asobi’s Astro Bot taking home the greatest number of awards – alongside the prestigious GOTY trophy.

Across its 7 nominations, Team Asobi’s Astro Bot won 4 total awards; the most of any game this year.

Of course, as mentioned, Astro Bot took home the Game of the Year (beating out Balatro; Black Myth: Wukong; Elden Ring: SotET; FFVII Rebirth and Metaphor: ReFantazio), but it also managed to nab the awards for ‘Best Game Direction’; ‘Best Action / Adventure Game’ and ‘Best Family Game’.

The 3 categories in which Astro Bot lost were ‘Best Audio Design’ (Hellblade II); ‘Best Score and Music’ (FFVII Rebirth) and ‘Best Art Direction’ (Metaphor: ReFantazio).

Other notable winners include the aforementioned Metaphor: ReFantazo as well as Balatro – both winning 3 awards each. The former took home ‘Best Art Direction; Narrative and RPG’, while Balatro nabbed the ‘Best Mobile Game; Indie Game and Debut Indie Game’ awards.

Congratulations to all those who took home a trophy at the 2024 Game Awards. Whether nominated or not, 2024 was another excellent year for video game releases (even if the industry itself unfortunately continues to suffer).
