Apple Music comes to Xbox one year after PlayStation

Video game consoles are much more than simple game-playing apparatus, they are multimedia systems offering games, films, shows, internet, and of course music. That being said, those subscribed to Apple’s Music subscription service have been unable to listen to music while gaming – at least on Xbox. Fortunately, this is no longer the case.

Roughly one year after it launched on PlayStation, Apple Music is now available on Xbox consoles, meaning those with a subscription will be able to play any songs from the more than 100 million available as part of the service.

The app launched ahead of the announcement that Microsoft was partnering with Apple to bring Apple Music, Apple TV and iCloud Photos natively to Windows devices. With Xbox systems running on a tweaked version of Windows, the timing of the announcement makes sense.

Though not quite as universal as Spotify, Apple Music has quickly become one of the biggest names in music streaming, taking second place only to the aforementioned Spotify in terms of paid subscribers.

As mentioned, Apple Music has historically had a rather limited release, being heavily skewed towards Apple hardware users. That being said, it is encouraging to see Apple bringing native apps to more devices.
