AAA John Wick video game is in development

Over the past decade the John Wick film series has ballooned from a relatively niche action experience to a blockbuster juggernaut – amassing nearly half a Billion Dollars with the most recent release of John Wick: Chapter 4. With sequels and spin-offs on the way, it has now been announced that a AAA video game based on the franchise is in development.

As reported by Comicbook.com, during Lionsgate’s Q4 2024 fiscal earnings call, Joe Drake, the Motion Picture Group chairman officially announced that a John Wick video game is currently in the works, saying:

“We're now moving across that franchise, not just in the AAA video game space, but looking at what the regular cadence of spin-offs, television really growing that universe so that there is a steady cadence of a franchise that there's clear appetite by the audience.”

The concept of a John Wick AAA video game is highly exciting, and while we have seen the franchise brought over to gaming in the past with the release of 2019’s John Wick Hex, its ambitions were rather small (being an indie-developed strategy game).

The John Wick films feature highly stylised action using both firearms and hand-to-hand combat. If this sense of speed, flow and precision-action is able to be translated correctly, then the prospect of a John Wick video game is exciting indeed.
