2022 Game Awards breaks records with over 100 million livestreams

The Game Awards has seen a consistent and impressive amount of growth, with the annual showcase increasing its reach year-on-year to dozens of millions of viewers. The 2022 awards show has hit a major milestone, surpassing over 100 million livestreams.

Making the announcement on Twitter, The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley released a whole host of statistics pertaining to this year’s show, saying “This year #TheGameAwards hit a new viewership milestone: 103 million livestreams [compared to 85 million in 2021]. Thank you for making this the most-watched Game Awards in history. See you in 2023!”

This is not all however, as according to Keighley, “On Twitter, TGA delivered over 11.5 million video views of the livestream, with a 28% increase in conversation volume YoY, 33% increase in unique authors, and 31% increase in #TheGameAwards hashtag usage. The show trended #1 worldwide, including all top 5 worldwide trends.”

Of course, it is worth noting that at least one of those trending words was ‘Bill Clinton’ thanks to the troll who got up on stage following the GOTY announcement – but still, the attention surrounding The Game Awards is certainly impressive.

With each Game Awards getting bigger and bigger, it will be interesting to see whether 2023’s will once again be the biggest show ever, or if the TGA’s have finally hit their tipping point. We will have to wait and see.
