Amazon Games opens new studio to reportedly work on LOTR MMO and Tomb Raider

Amazon Games has remained in the US & Canada since its inception but with publishing and development activities picking up in recent years, it is time to expand. Now, Amazon Games is opening up its first game studio in Europe.

The new studio will be based in Bucharest, Romania, joining a substantial list of other Amazon studios based in Orange County, San Diego, Seattle and Montreal. Notably, Amazon has chosen former Ubisoft studio Managing Director and Bucharest native, Cristian Pana, to lead operations at the new studio.

Over the course of a 20-year career at Ubisoft, Pana worked on titles like Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Driver San Francisco, Far Cry 3, Splinter Cell Blacklist, The Crew, and Tom Clancy’s The Division.

According to Insider Gaming, this new studio is expected to start off working on Amazon's upcoming Lord of the Rings MMO, and offering support for Crystal Dynamics' new Tomb Raider game, which Amazon is publishing.

KitGuru Says: It is always odd to see massive companies going on hiring sprees months after layoffs. Still, it is always good to see more studios popping up. Hopefully in time, we'll see good things coming out of it.
