Roccat Cross Gaming Headset Review

The Roccat Cross is a supremely lightweight, portable headset, that though perhaps a little too flexible in the frame, has very little else to complain about. It sounds great, looks understated and can be improved even further with the use of a nice add-in sound card.

Although some may be looking for something a little more flash, the sleek design of the Cross is quite classy and blends in with a lot of other gamer gear. Its earcups are comfortable over long periods and though some may find them a little small, I never ran into problems with their coverage.

The soundscape they produce is a little on the bassy side, which is perhaps testament to their gaming focus, but they sound great in a variety of games and music genres.

The pair of microphones is a nice touch and it means you can quickly switch between smartphone and PC usage thanks to their attached cabling. Mic quality is decent, though with the boom in place you do lack any kind of mute buttons. You can move the mic out of the way, but it is just a flexible arm so requires bending to do so.

The compatibility with a smartphone extends to consoles too, and this headset works with both the PS4 and Xbox One (with an adaptor in the latter case).

Overall the Roccat Cross is a solid gaming headset at a decent price point that ticks a lot of boxes. It is not the greatest sounding headset ever, but for its super lightweight design and portability, you could do a lot worse – especially considering the price that many of its competitor over-the-ear headphone designs come in at.

You can pick up the Roccat Cross at OCUK for £60.

Pros

  • Lightweight and very flexible.
  • Solid sound quality for games and music.
  • Comfortable over long periods.
  • Swappable cables and microphones make it easy to switch from PC to mobile.
  • Bass-orientated soundscape should compete directly with popular brands like Beats.

Cons

  • No mute button boom microphone.
  • The lightweight frame does leave some concerns about durability.
  • Nothing stands out about its aesthetics, could be considered dull.

KitGuru Says: The Roccat Cross delivers the goods when it comes to in-game and musical audio and is extremely portable. Its lightweight frame does make us worry about its durability, though.
