Overall we are left with generally positive impressions of the Turtle Beach Ear Force X12 Xbox 360 headset. It offers a winning combination of great build quality and attractive aesthetics that will be sure to appeal to a broad spectrum of serious Xbox 360 gamers.
Aside from the lack of virtual or dedicated surround sound, we couldn't fault the overall audio quality. Additionally, for those who are worried about the lack of surround sound, there is an external sound mixer available which adds this functionality. It does come at quite a cost though as it effectively doubles the price of the headset.
The Ear Force X12 is comfortable to wear for long periods of time thanks to the well designed headband and earpads. It is ideal for those who find the standard Xbox 360 chat headsets uncomfortable and who want to upgrade to something more viable long term.
At a price of £40 at Amazon.co.uk, we think that the Turtle Beach Ear Force X12 offers good value for money. The value is enhanced considerably over many Xbox 360 headsets as it is also fully compatible with PC computers.
Many people won't want to purchase two separate headsets so the Ear Force X12 should definitely be considered.
Pros:
- Wee built.
- Looks good.
- High level of sound quality.
- Compatible with PC.
- Adjustable bass level.
Cons
- Surround sound requires costly external module.
KitGuru says: Another impressive effort from Turtle Beach.
Nice to see plenty of models for gamers. I like the look of this set, but I just bought a new corsair pair.
