SteelSeries 5H V2 Medal of Honor Gaming Headset Review

SteelSeries have used plastic exclusively in the construction of the 5H V2 to help keep the weight to a minimum.  The plastics are good quality and the headset can be twisted and bent considerably without breaking.  This makes the 5H V2 perfect for users who are a little clumsy and have a tendency to break things.

The aesthetics of the headset are good provided you don't mind the branding on the earcups which consists of a medal of Honor logo on a white and grey background.  If you don't like the branding however, there are both plain black and white versions available.  The branding is restricted to the earcups so the headband retains the black finish used for the standard version of the headset.

As the 5H V2 is designed specifically for gaming, SteelSeries have given features that are going to appeal specifically to gamers.  For example, the headset breaks into three pieces to make it easier to transport in a bag.

SteelSeries have also chosen to use a braided cable for the headset which should prove much more durable than a cable with a plastic shielding.  The cable terminates in two gold plated 3.5 mm connectors for the headphone and microphone portions of the headset.

Approximately half way down the cable we find the in-line control which features a volume wheel and a microphone mute switch.  On the reverse side of the control there is a metal clip should you want to secure it to your shirt.

Like the rest of SteelSeries' headsets, the 5H V2 has a retractable microphone that is pretty much invisible when stowed.  When you want to use the microphone it simply pulls out from the left earcup.  It also stays out of your field of view when it's in use, so it isn't a distraction.  The boom of the microphone is also flexible so you can position it for the best results.

  1. Seems like a nice idea, but I didnt think this game was popular anymore? I guess maybe for clan gamers it might be.

  2. Almost everything Steelseries do, is to target hardcore gamers. this is a clan headset basically IMO.

  3. Looks really good I think. I already have the siberia and love it to death.

  4. Funny that I was totally dissatisfied with the pair I bought. I have yet to see anything so cheaply built. I didn’t want to keep them for any length of time & have a broken piece of trash w/ no warranty. Went right back & I was out a restocking fee.
