The Apple Vision Pro headset may only be purchasable by appointment

If the price tag alone wasn't enough to put you off of the Apple Vision Pro headset, the process of buying one might do the trick. According to reports this week, Apple is planning to have customers book in-store appointments to buy the headset.

Mark Gurman, formerly of 9to5Mac and now writing for Bloomberg, has reported that Apple will be adding new sections to its biggest Apple Stores, where staff can hold appointments with those interested in buying the Vision Pro headset. During this process, staff will check your head measurements and ensure the headset fits properly. There will also be the option to have prescription lenses inserted.

The process is a little similar to the booking system Apple held when the first Apple Watch launched. Due to the decision to offer prescription lens inserts, Apple will need to keep a lot of them in stock, which may limit the number of Apple Store locations this can be offered in.

Right now, it is unclear exactly when the Vision Pro headset will launch and it was also recently claimed that Apple has been facing supply chain struggles, limiting the number of headsets it can make for 2024. When the Vision Pro does launch, it will cost $3,499.

KitGuru Says: Chances are this will just be a year-one thing, giving the chance for Apple to directly demo the headset for customers and walk them through it as there may be many first-time VR users.
