Discord voice chat will head to PS5 consoles in early 2023

Sony first announced plans to integrate Discord with PlayStation consoles all the way back in May 2021, and while Discord account linking has been added, other features like Voice Chat have yet to arrive. Xbox began testing Discord Voice Chat on its own consoles earlier this summer, but PlayStation integration won't be far behind.

Tom Henderson (via exputer) has heard from several sources, including the same source that leaked the DualSense Edge controller months before its announcement, that deeper Discord integration is planned for the PS5's 7.00 software update.

Currently, the 6.00 update is planned for mid-September, and Version 7.00 is said to be due in March 2023. This is the update that will add Discord Voice Chat to the PS5, allowing users to link their Discord accounts and still access their Discord group and private calls directly from the console. This will also provide an alternative to the PS5's native party chat system.

As usual, we can expect public beta tests to begin a few months ahead of time, so we might get to see Discord integration in action before the end of the year, or in early 2023. If you'd like to have early access to PS5 software updates, you can sign up for the beta program, HERE.

KitGuru Says: It looks like Discord Voice Chat will be heading to both major home consoles. Perhaps someday, Nintendo will allow Discord integration to spruce up its social and online features on the Switch or its successor.
