It has been a couple of years since Meta first retired the Oculus brand and shifting towards branding all VR hardware under the ‘Meta' banner. This included a shift away from Oculus accounts towards Meta accounts. Many have been able to hold out for now and continue to use newer headsets with Oculus software instead. However, starting this month, Meta will start deleting Oculus accounts for good. 

If you have yet to transition your Oculus account to a Meta account, you will want to do it soon. Starting on the 29th of March, Meta has confirmed that it will begin deleting Oculus accounts, meaning you will lose any purchases, store credit, achievements and other data tied to the account. You can transfer your Oculus account to a Meta account before the deadline and avoid losing access to any of your purchases.

This process used to be a bit more painful, as it was tied to Facebook. However, you can now create a Meta account with an email address, without tying it up with your Facebook or Instagram accounts.

KitGuru Says: If you've owned an Oculus in the past but haven't necessarily used VR for a long time, there is a good chance you may have missed the account migration previously. It is worth double checking, as getting access to your purchases once again would likely require some kind of legal intervention, which is a lengthy and costly process itself.
