Lenovo Legion Go 2 with Ryzen Z2 APU in the works

It looks like Lenovo's next generation PC gaming handheld is just around the corner. Lenovo was an early adopter of the AMD Ryzen Z1 APU, which powered the Lenovo Legion Go and the Asus ROG Ally. Now, the upcoming Ryzen Z2 APU is set to power a new generation of gaming handhelds, including a Legion Go 2.

AMD looks to be about to unveil its updated Ryzen Z-Series APUs for portable gaming. Recent leaks have hinted at the specifications of each SKU, although some details remain unknown. First, we have the flagship Z2 Extreme model, which is expected to feature 8x CPU cores alongside 16x RDNA 3.5 CUs. Then, there's the conventional Z2 for mid-range and a Z2G as the entry-level solution. These two models are expected to be based on older architectures, specifically Hawk Point (Zen4 and RDNA 3) or Rembrandt (Zen 2+ and RDNA 2), respectively.

According to the EEC listing shared by ITHome (via Noteboocheck), Lenovo's new Legion Go lineup will feature three distinct systems: the Legion Go S 8ARP1 (potentially leveraging the Z2G/RP/Rembrandt architecture), the Legion Go 8AHP2 (likely equipped with Z2/HP/Hawk Point), and the Legion Go 8ASP2 (featuring the Z2 Extreme/SP/Strix Point). The entry-level “S” model seems to correlate with the Lite variant we've seen previously, distinguished by a white colour scheme and a simpler design without detachable controllers.

These model numbers somewhat corroborate the leak on the Z2 series featuring chips based on different architectures, but they're far from an official confirmation. However, that shouldn't take long, as AMD has confirmed that the Ryzen Z2 series is slated for release next year.

KitGuru says: Like most EEC listings, they don't guarantee that the company is launching a new product. However, considering all the other information leaked on the new generation of Legion Go devices, it's clear Lenovo is planning to stay in this market.
