AMD Strix Halo chips to launch as Ryzen AI Max 300

The latest AMD chipset driver (version 6.10.02.1849) is now available for download, and with it comes an interesting reveal. This update, listed by Asus, is aimed at the X670 and X670E motherboards, but the release notes mentioned a driver for the unannounced Ryzen AI Max 300 series, the naming for Strix Halo.

This was brought up by HXL, who has shared the link to the chipset driver for the Asus ROG Crosshair X670E Hero. The Strix Halo series is expected to leverage the Zen 5 and RDNA 3.5 architectures. Unlike the Ryzen AI 300, this new offering aims for a different league altogether, offering up to 16 CPU cores and 40 GPU CUs, making it a compelling solution for portable workstations. However, AMD may also sell it as gaming APUs, which, considering their specifications, should be capable of doing.

Word on the street has it that AMD is preparing three distinct SKUs within this new lineup: the Ryzen AI MAX+ 395, featuring 16 cores and 40 CUs; the Ryzen AI MAX 390, with 12 cores and 40 CUs; and the Ryzen AI MAX 385, aimed with 8 cores and 32 CUs.

AMD is reportedly gearing up to debut the Ryzen AI 300 MAX series during CES 2025.
