While many aspects of Intel's Haswell processor line-up might have underwhelmed the overclocking community at launch, the battle between Asrock, Asus, MSI and Gigabyte for control of top spot has never been harder fought.
With a huge amount of experience accumulated during in the Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge days, every major mainboard manufacturer quickly brought out great looking boards, with a huge array of features.
There were so many models available to choose from that KitGuru had to put in extreme amounts of overtime just to plough through all of the available options. But the overtime was done, in-depth testing followed and now we are able to render an opinion.
In the Z87 Value category, we were looking for a board that was not much more than £100, but which provided stability and overclocking levels that would not look out of place on a board costing £50 or more.
We considered the kind of components that would be wrapped around this kind of build, memory that could be as fast as 2,400MHz and in all likelihood, a single graphics card (but with the option for more in the future).
In this category, we have opted for the Asus Z87-K board, because despite managing to hit a price point of less than £90 on the market today it includes features such as 14 USB ports and 6x SATA 6Gbps connectors, alongside one of the best UEFI interfaces on the market.
If you are looking to build an overclocked Intel rig on a budget but still want lots of features and a sensible array of overclocking options, then it is difficult to beat the Asus Z87-K.
